CHARITIES AND FUNDRAISING

First of all, a big thank you to all the wonderful women of IWCV who generously continue to support our charities. As you can appreciate, our charities continue to struggle post-pandemic. This year we raised €720 through some fund-raising events and private donations. The money was divided between Proyecto Vivir, Casa Ronald McDonald and Casa Caridad.

We are now fast approaching the holiday season and our help will be needed even more. Watch the newsletter and emails for notifications as to how we can help these charities, and for any upcoming events.

Amigos de las Calle

We will endeavor to support Amigos de la Calle over the holiday period. Our Christmas Gift Bag Project 2021 was very successful and Missy Anobile, who did an amazing job last year, has kindly agreed to oversee this again. Details will be confirmed in the November newsletter. For information about Amigos de la Calle, go to https://amigosdelacalle.es.

Sponsor a Child

Sponsor a Child, where IWCV members provided wrapped holiday gifts for children of families in need, was another successful project last year and we ended up having more IWCV participants than needy children (a very good thing!). We still managed to bring joy to 40 young children whose families are not so fortunate. We are hoping to repeat this very successful project this year. Those of you who are interested in providing gifts for these children in need, please send your name, email address and telephone number along with the number of children you wish to sponsor by Friday 7 October. Email address: pauline.fitzgerald9@gmail.com. Details of children along with any specific requirements will be provided when we receive information from the organizers. We are hoping that this information will be with you by the end of October. Please note that IWCV are not the only group supporting Amigos de la Calle and like last year we may not have the number of children to meet demand, but we will do our best to ensure as many of you as possible are able to participate.

ACTIVITIES

In September we started the new Board Games & More group coordinated by Ann Linton, a new member who has stepped up to lead this very fun activity. If you are interested in this group, email Phyllis at vpactivities.iwcvalencia@gmail.com. We expect that this group will meet twice a month depending on host availability.

This month we are excited to announce a new activity: IWCV member Marilyn Magallon, a bilingual Valenciana, has graciously agreed to host a monthly intercambio at her home, where you will have the opportunity to learn spoken Spanish from native speakers while they learn English (or other languages) from you. We are hoping to hold the first session on Wednesday, 12 October, but would appreciate a ballpark headcount so if you are interested, please let Phyllis know (email to vpactivities.iwcvalencia@gmail.com ). More details are coming soon!

We, and especially our VP Activities Phyllis So, are excited to see so many of our IWCV members getting involved in planning the many activities in the works for the upcoming months. We would love to see more people jump in and participate and become a significant part of our ever-growing club. With your assistance we can make the IWCV even better than it already is! With this in mind, Phyllis is hosting a short coffee to explain what it means and what is involved in hosting or coordinating an activity. On Tuesday 11 October at 11:00 AM we will have a short get-together at Sweets and Coffee, on Calle Jesús at Calle del Pintor Segrelles (https://goo.gl/maps/tkcYsFoaTsxQfBjR7 ). There is no need to sign up in advance, but if you know you will be there please let Phyllis know (email to vpactivities.IWCValencia@gmail.com). We hope to see you there!
