July 2024

Summer has arrived! It’s now time to walk on the shady side of the street, hit Valencia’s beautiful beaches, or maybe even get away somewhere more temperate. While the IWCV will not be having many special events in July and August, some of our on-going activities will continue over the summer. Just contact each activity’s coordinator to get the summer schedule for that activity:

Real Estate

For those of you with real estate questions, you can still arrange your private half hour question and answer session with the IWCV’s real estate guru Rebecca Cabo on Friday 19 July or Friday 16 August. Just go to Events | IWC - Valencia to sign up for the date of your choice.

First Tuesday Coffee

Our last First Tuesday Coffee morning until September will be this coming Tuesday 2 July at 10:30am, outdoors on the terraza behind the MUVIM Museum. The coffee morning is open to all women of Valencia, both members and those who haven’t officially joined us yet. No need to register in advance, just drop by for a cuppa and a chat! And, don’t forget to bring your donations for Casa Caridad, who are in need of women’s hygiene products and olive oil. Members of the IWCV’s charity team will be there to collect them from you. Thank you all!

MEMBERSHIP

Janine Forbes, VP Membership

I am delighted to report that our new member numbers have grown yet again this month with 12 new members from 6 countries in June . We truly are an “International” Women’s Club. Facebook is increasingly a source for new members finding us. Remember all the information about the group is on the IWC website. If you would like to join one of the many Whats app groups, just contact the relevant lead member or any Board Member. If you know any women in your personal network who you think would enjoy our club please pass on www.iwc-valencia.com and bring them along to the Monthly Coffee at Muvim Cafe, 2 July from 10:30!

Input from Ambassadors

We have a growing number of new members who are keen to meet up with a local Ambassador and get to know Valencia better. If you are someone with experience of the city, who likes to meet and show people around or even just to be a friendly face over a coffee, please get in touch with Joanne Simpson at joanneis1@hotmail.com.

Telephone: +34 647 738 103

If you call Proyecto Vivir, please ask to speak with Cindy who organises the rotas for the store. The store is located at Calle González Márti 3, 46008 Valencia.

CASA CARIDAD

At Coffee Morning on July 2nd, we will be collecting donations to support Casa Caridad. As most of you probably know, Casa Caridad is a nonprofit organisation located in Valencia that responds to the needs of homeless people and is one of the charities that IWCV has been supporting for a long time. In addition to providing shelter to homeless individuals, they also supply food to families in need by preparing food packages.

We invite you to join us in supporting their efforts by donating;

- Women's hygiene products, which can be used onsite, and/or

- Olive oil, which will be included in the food packages (something they have in short supply and would be grateful for)

Members of the charity team will be present at Coffee Morning and your donations will be delivered to Casa Caridad after our gathering.

Thank you Ladies for your continuous and unrelenting support

ACTIVITIES

Susan Burke March, VP—Activities

On June 12 Pau Chinestra from Beyond Valencia guided our members on a full-day tour to Cueva dae Turche dae Buñol, near a lake with a waterfall, only a 40-minute drive from Valencia. Picked up in a private van, they had a short hike to the waterfall and visited a beautiful, organic winery where they enjoyed a wine tasting and lunch before driving back to Valencia. All voted that Pau is an excellent tour guide because he’s very familiar with the area and points out interesting facts along the way – and he’s a good driver!

We look forward to more trips with Beyond Valencia.

On June 13, Patricia Murray organised our Catamaran and Mussels (and wine!) outing in Valencia Harbour, which was a popular success. Feedback included how well-organised the tour was and how attentive the staff was. The food and wine were good and plentiful, and it was a pleasant and peaceful day out on the water.

Here are updates from some of our Activities Coordinators:

Women Who Walk: Liz Humphreys

“The Women Who Walk have continued to live up to their name admirably. Lots of new members joined the stalwarts for great chats before, during, and after the exercise. We will close the walks for the Summer from June 28 but meet each Friday at 11:00 at the 6th floor café in El Corte Inglés (on Carrer de Colon - the one with the Samsung store downstairs) for the coffee and chat part. Mark your calendars! More walks begin September 6th, the first Friday of September. WhatsApp me to be added to the Women Who Walk chat. +34 637 74 89 90”

Spanish and Coffee: Mary Reeves

“The group is going really well. We meet every Wednesday at the El Corte Inglés cafeteria on the 6th floor [same as the one above – Carrer dae Colon, 27] from 11 to 12:15. We are beginner—to intermediate-level Spanish speakers, and we have conversations and play games like Taboo en Espanol to improve our vocabulary and speaking skills. Join us! WhatsApp me to be added to the Spanish and Coffee chat. +34 686 50 20 90”

The Real Estate Clinic: Rebecca Cabo

“So far, I think the clinic has been helpful for those who have booked their one-on-one 30-minute sessions. One woman wanted to talk about investing in real estate, and others have had interesting and challenging questions about renting and buying. Our clinics continue – on July 19, August 16, and September 20, 15:30-17:30. To sign up for your free session, WhatsApp +34 662 332 28 54”

Chicas de Libros: Ruth Ann Hepler

They meet on the second Tuesday of each month (except for August) at 18:00 – and July is no exception! To learn more about the group and the next book on the agenda, WhatsApp Ruth Ann to be added to the group chat. +34 613 39 54 58

Solo Women: Silvia Matos

“The Solo Women have taken off! We are just a month old and having a blast, getting to know each other, visiting new restaurants, and enjoying concerts and other cultural activities in town. We meet twice monthly on Friday evenings, 19:00 - 22:00, so WhatsApp me to be added to the WhatsApp chat and learn about our next social gathering. +34 666 68 35 74”

Board Games: Ann Linton

“The board game sessions are ongoing throughout the summer! We meet twice monthly to play various games—a different member takes turns hosting on alternate weeks. We bring snacks and drinks and have a great time. All the details are announced in our WhatsApp chat. Would you like to host a game for six people or more? The more, the merrier! Send me a WhatsApp and join the chat! +1 312 208 8666”

Stitches & Yarns: Cathy Cleaver

“We’re on hiatus for the summer and look forward to resuming our gathering on the last Thursday of September. Send me a WhatsApp to be added to the chat! +34 635 97 89 98”
