Casa - Museo Benlluire is a few metres walk from the Serranos Towers. It is located in the Calle Blanquerias 23. What used to be the painter’s family dwelling has now become a treasure that Valencia can proudly cherish. Upon entering the front door, visitors are enveloped by the atmosphere of bourgeoisie household during the later 19th and early 20th centuries. Every room contains furniture and everyday utensils that tell fascinating tales of life in the Benlluire home. The upper floors include an ample collection of paintings done by José Benlliure and his son, Pepino.
An authentic visit, however, should start in the garden, which has maintained the traditional Valencia style, and is laden with romanticism. Its lime benches and winding paths were later to be Sorolla’s source of inspiration for this house in Madrid. The bottom of the garden hides the painter’s study. This unexpected room contains various works by father and son, alongside an abundance of colourful objects which, in keeping with the fashionable pastimes of the epoch, were collected by the painter all over the world.
