About The Event
La Vall d’Uixó (“La Vall”) is a town in the Valencian province of Castelló. La Cova de Sant Josep (Saint Joseph Caves) and other caves in the area are the most ancient vestiges of La Vall. Remains of ancient Iberian cities such as La Punta d’Oreleyl and Poblat Sant Josep can still be seen in La Vall. During Roman times, the area was mainly agricultural. Roman ruins dating back to the 6thand 7th centuries can still be seen there. Dozens of villages flourished along the Belcaire river during the years under Arab rule. In 1250 CE, la Vall became an important city inside the Kingdom of Valencia. During the 18th century, the six villages of La Vall joined together to create El Poble de Dalt and El Poble de Baiz. From the 19th century, both towns formed a square which is now home to the current City Hall. The economic structure of La Vall is now centered around the city’s commerce.
On this very special trip, our English-speaking guides from Ars Magna will introduce us to the beauty, the history, and the current status of La Vall.
Itinerary:
9:15 - Meet at bus for departure
10:30 - Visit to the Factory Segarra museum. Here we will learn the history of one of the most powerful shoe making factories in Spain, concentrating on the first factory to make espadrilles and to create a colony for the factory workers. You will also have a chance to shop for the high-end leather products made by Segarra.
11:45 (approx.) - Saint Josep caves. We will learn about the still existing aqueducts of La Valla and its ancient irrigation system. We will then take a boat along the longest undersoil navigable river in Europe and enjoy the outstanding geography of this site, with ancient stalactites and stalagmites as well as prehistoric remains. This is truly an awesome experience! (Note: the boat ride is not recommended if you are claustrophobic.)
13:30 – Return to La Vall town for lunch at the Monpiedra-San Isidro Restaurant, with the freshest products of the Herta de Valencia and the Mediterranean. Entrées plus a rice dish plus dessert, coffee, and one drink are included.
15:30 - A tour of the old town to learn more about the history of La Vall. We will see the City Hall, Santo Ángel Square and its parish, Vivel palace, Saint Vincent Shrine Square and the eye-catching Assumption of the Virgin Parish with its beautiful frescoes and Valencian ceramics.
17:00 - Return to Valencia in our private coach.
