Tour to Bastida de les Alcusses and Celler del Roure

Our first stop on this tour will be La Bastida de les Alcusses, an Iberian village (rather, the excavations…) on top of a hill, overlooking the valley; it includes a model homestead to show how the Iberians lived, in 500 BC. Very interesting! From here we go to the Celler del Roure winery, almost next door. This winery produces the famous Maduresa, the first quality wine from Valencia, which they started producing only 20 years ago! Celler del Roure was also the first winery that started recovering almost extinct native grapes, and experimenting with them to see if they would make good wine. And if that’s not enough, they also experimented with making wine in 17th century clay pots dug in the ground – nowadays they make almost all their wine in those clay pots. And of course we will taste some of these wines at the end of the visit (after which you can buy their wine!). From the winery we’ll go to the village of Fontanars, where we will have lunch at Restaurant Julio; this restaurant once had a Michelin star, but decided to give it back, because it caused them too much stress… they just want to make good food, that’s all! The price of the tour is only €55 per person – this includes everything: transport, visits to Iberian village and winery (guided tour and wine tasting), and the lunch in Fontanars. To be able to offer the tour at this price we need at least 22 passengers; so look for friends and family to join you, so we fill up the bus!
