About The Event
The Knights Templar order fought alongside King James I against the Moors to defend Christianity and were rewarded with land near the Turia River to build a chapel. After their disbandment, the Montesa order emerged in Valencia. What happened to the chapel, and why did Montesa vanish in the 18th century? Our excellent English-speaking guide David from Ars Magna will take us on a tour of the Knights Templar Church, a stunning neoclassical building commissioned by King Charles III, that features impressive frescoes by José Vergara and design elements influenced by architect Francesco Sabatini. The church includes tombs, sculptures, elegant chapels, and trompe-l'œil paintings, alongside a striking dome and a magnificent marble baldachin. What is its connection to Montesa, and who are the Redemptorists? Did they take over the church? Don’t miss your chance to visit and learn the answers to these questions and more!
