About The Event

This is a 4-part series by our own nutritionist, Susan Burke March. You may sign up for one, several, or all four dates.

September 05 - Gluten-free and Dairy Decisions

Part 1 - “Gluten-free” - Healthy or hype? There’s a lot of buzz about gluten - so what is it? What makes it important, and should you avoid it for better health, weight loss, or? We’ll separate the wheat from the chaff.

Part 2 - Dairy Decisions - Separating Myths & Facts - and what’s the ‘best’ and ‘worst’ dairy. What’s the difference between “lactose intolerant” and “lactose allergy” and how to tell? Bonus! Let’s taste some local Valencia cheese - what’s your favorite? Sheep, Cow, Goat, or ... other?

September 19 - Eating for Energy

“Energy” can be a confusing term, and a food manufacturers’ favorite marketing tool. What does it really mean in relation to your foods you eat and drink and your health? We’ll cover my top tips for feeling supercharged.

October 17 - Socializing and Food Labels

Part 1 - The Expat Dilemma - Socializing can be hazardous to your waistline and scale! Studies show that dining out frequently can really take a toll on your weight, but here are proven top strategies for eating without the weight gain!

Part 2 - Reading the label - The EU food label is quite difficult to decipher - learn top tips for choosing the healthiest packaged foods. I’ll provide some labels on foods, and you can bring your (least and most) favorites,  and we’ll practice reading between the lines.

November 14 - Are We Doomed to Diabetes?

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports diabetes is a pandemic, but is it preventable? Is it curable? What’s the difference between Type 1 & 2? Are there more types? Are you or a loved one living with diabetes or at risk? We’ll cover the basics - the new updates to the meaning of test results, and separate some myths from truths about this non-communicable disease that kills more people every year than cancer, chronic respiratory diseases or heart disease.
