Monthly Newsletter
September 2020
We had hoped that September would be the month to resume all our regular activities, but it appears that will not be so. Still we do have some things planned and hope you will feel comfortable participating. We have chosen to do all things outdoors with plenty of social spacing. Please be sure to check out our activities at https://www.iwc-valencia.com/events-for-the-month
Annual Elections
It has been decided that the much postponed IWC-Valencia Annual Elections will be held in September. We will have to do this via the internet as we cannot assemble a large group to hold the elections. The slate of candidates and instructions will be mailed to you on September 1, 2020. The email will contain a link to the ballot. It will only take a couple of minutes to vote so please open the email, click on the link and vote. Voting with close September 7, 2020 so please do not delay. Your vote is very important. A big thank you to our Nominating Committee for all their work. Lauren Baker, Missy Anobile and Carmen Rieff have done an outstanding job of organizing everything.
August Events
In August we had our coffee at the Santa Rosa Café across from the Mercado Rojas Clemente. It turned out to be most enjoyable.
Lunch at Saltimbocca was a big hit. Everyone enjoyed the food and the location. In fact, they enjoyed the space so much our September Coffee will be there. Be sure to check the details and sign-up. Female friends are very welcome, but it is helpful to know how many people to plan for.
Mahjong is ongoing with more new players joining. Jane is an amazing teacher and the new players are very enthusiastic. If you are interested in learning to play please contact Jane Buck at forjbuck@aol.com
It is still a little difficult to organize our cultural tours. Brenda has been in touch with David, our usual guide, but we will have to wait a bit more before David can take us on tours as a group.
Neighborhood Ambassador
I am amazed at how many people have joined the IWC-Valencia in the last few months. I am pleased to announce the Joanne Simpson has agreed to be our Neighborhood Ambassador Co-Ordinator. She will work directly with our Neighborhood Ambassadors. We would be pleased if we had some additional “ambassadors’ to handle the increasing number of new members. The task is simple but very important. It is to reach out to a new member in your area, welcome them and introduce them to the IWC and to Valencia. If you are interested in doing this, please respond to iwcvalencia@gmail.com.
Please welcome our August new members.

Tuesday, September 1, 2020, 10:00 to 12:00
Saltimbocca

Please note that this is a new location for coffee. It is a lovely, relaxing spot under the trees. There is often a gentle breeze to cool us off. If you plan to attend, please sign by clicking First Tuesday Coffee.
September Luncheon
Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 2:00PM
Paella by the sea! For the time being numbers are limited so we are restricting attendance to members only. Hopefully things will change soon, and we can invite our male guests, but not quite yet. Please click Luncheon for details and to sign-up. Hope to see you there.
Knit and Knatter
Thursday, September 24, 2020
The group "Knit and Knatter" would like to extend an invitation to members of the IWC-Valencia to join us. You may be an expert, just learning or already know how to knit. All are welcome and we are always willing to teach you if you are new to knitting. It is a relaxing time to knit, knitter over coffee or a snack. For details click Knit
Future Events
As soon as we can all get together, we have a few new things planned. However, we may do some “virtually” if necessary.
The Popcorn Club – Shey Wolvek-Pfister has agreed to co-ordinate a movie club for our members. More details to follow when it is possible to gather. In the meantime, put on your thinking caps and come up with some movies, for, about or by women that you think others might want to see.
Speaker’s Series – Phyllis So has designed a speaker’s series with a variety of topics. If there is something you would like to hear about or something you would like to share with the group, please let Phyllis know. Your ideas would be very helpful shaping the series.
At times like these it is difficult. It is normal that we may feel a bit down or lacking enthusiasm. A friend to talk to can make the day a little brighter. Take the time to reach out to each other, whether to give support or receive it. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
Please take good care of yourselves and stay safe.
Susan V. Kaplan
President, IWC-Valencia
