August is the IWCV’s vacation month so there are just a few bits and pieces in this month’s Newsletter.
A special announcement for those of you who are or who know US Veterans abroad who may need some extra support: The Hot Line For Vets Abroad is independently funded and voluntarily operated by vets. There is now a growing number of local numbers in specific countries, as well as an EU/UK central hotline if calls are not answered within 15 seconds. Licensed medical and social services have trained qualified volunteers to respond helpfully to Vets and/or their families in stressful situations. At IWCV we continue to collaborate with our charities. Due to the continued decline in public funding our charities are struggling after the pandemic. At this moment PROYECTO VIVIR need our help. This charity focuses on pursuing gender equality and social justice through the development and empowerment of women trying to rebuild their lives after surviving extraordinary circumstances. Any money we raise can help and maintain the shelters which are a safe and secure haven for women and children.
Last year through your generosity we achieved more than our €500 target. Can we do it again? Let's give it our best shot to support this worthy cause.
Donations can be made directly through bank transfer, or BIZUM for those who use that app. ACCOUNT for PROYECTO VIVIR ES52 2038 5748 7930 0081 2480 Please tag your donation IWCValencia in the "justification".
Thank you to all you lovely ladies in IWCV. Your generosity has no bounds and is greatly appreciated by PROYECTO VIVIR!

As we move into August, we will be taking a Valencian break from official IWCV events. Come back and see us in September as we plan more and more activities. And as always, if there are any activities you’d like us to consider, please let Phyllis know (vpactivities.IWCValencia@gmail.com).
On 24 July, the IWCV held its first and certainly not its last IWCV Wine & Cheese Pairing which was full to capacity with 10 people attending! Each person brought their favorite red, white or rosado wine and explained a little about thewine and the cheese they brought to pair with it. We had quite a variety of Spanish reds and whites, plus a German Riesling and a French Rose from Provence. Everyone who attended thought it was amazing and the diversity of wines was vast. Many thanks to Karen Koski for her hospitality and for the use of her fabulous outdoor terrace.
The IWCV’s second Happy Hour (OWL) was held on July 28 and was again successful with more than 25 people attending. The staff at our venue Babilonia were very accommodating and easy going, and our members and their spouses/partners/guests were easily able to stand up and walk around and get to chat with others.
Future activity dates for your calendars (details to follow in the September Newsletter):
Tuesday 7 September: First Tuesday Coffee at MuviMent
Thursday 16 September: IWCV Monthly Luncheon
Thursday 23 September: IWCV Members’ Trip to Gandia
Wednesday 29 September: OWL (IWCV Happy Hour)
Thursday 14 October: IWCV Cermanics Tour in Manises
And of course, our regular monthly activities will start up again in September!
