It’s springtime in Valencia! The sun is shining more frequently, the cold wind is turning into a cool breeze, and we can finally see each other comfortably in person. This month we will re-start our First Tuesday Coffee (at a new time – 10:30 AM) and our monthly luncheon – both outdoors, of course. We’ve got a lot more to tell you about this month, so please do read through this April Newsletter to find out what’s happening with the IWCV!
First Tuesday Coffee – Tuesday 6 April from 10:30 AM to Noon outdoors at MuviMent, behind the MUVIM Museum. All women in Valencia, both members and those who haven’t joined yet, are welcome. For details go to Events & Activities | IWC - Valencia (iwc-valencia.com)
April Luncheon – 2 PM on Thursday 15 April, but you are welcome to arrive a little early for a drink and to catch up with friends. We will sit outside at tables with a maximum of 4 persons. Registration is required by Sunday 11 April – and don’t forget to select your starter and main course when you register! Members only. To register and for full details, click here Members Only Events | IWC - Valencia (iwc-valencia.com)
Our website has some additions that are definitely worth checking out!
New books have been listed in our women’s bibliography “Women – By, About, and For”
Two new stories by members have been added to “Our Stories” to celebrate ourselves and the International Day of the Woman
Quite a few members have followed in Ines Reser’s footsteps and have generously offered translation services, both medically oriented and other types, at no charge, for our members. Thank you to Ines, Anna Castiglioni, Maddi Cutting, Maria José Piera Martinez, and Alicia Quaini for your generosity and thoughtfulness!
While you’re looking at these new items, why not take a look through the “Valencia Resources” section of our website? It’s really worth it. You will find so much useful information and so many services offered. And, if you have some info to post or you know about services that are available, please do let us know about them so they can be added to our resources for other members to share!
As the weather has gotten better, the Covid restrictions have lessened, and the clock change has increased the amount of afternoon sun we get, we have found that many of you prefer being outdoors rather than home on Zoom. So, we have discontinued our weekly Zoom Social Chat for now. We hoped you enjoyed spending your Friday afternoons with us!
Even though the charities we support really do need volunteers to help out, Covid restrictions are still making it very difficult for our members to do any kind of volunteer work. Hopefully as restrictions are lifted, volunteer opportunities will open. If you think you may wish to help out in the future, please let our Fundraising Chair Pauline Fitzgerald know (email@example.com).
As the Covid restrictions loosen up we will do more outdoor activities and we have quite a slate of them. Currently we have two on-going events that are being held outside, Mah Jong and walking.
Mah Jong Mondays - Mondays 11-4 p.m. Marcellino’s, Gran Via de Ferran el Catòlic, 74. This activity is for members (and their partners/spouses) who already know how to play mahjong. But, as the weather improves, we will also be able to have additional classes for beginners. If you are interested in learning to play this fun game, please email Jane Buck, Mahjong Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Classes will be limited to 4 persons per mahjong table.
Women Who Walk - Fridays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of Palau de Musica on the Turia. Ida Mauritzen and Claudine Escaith, Activity Chairs
We will walk 30 minutes one way, turn around and go back towards the Palau where we will stop for a coffee at Les Jardines de la Turia Café. Our next walk will be this coming Friday 2 April. Plan to be there a few minutes early as we will begin our walk at 11 a.m. We will let you know on the Women Who Walk WhatsApp group which way we will walk and which side of the Turia. If you are not on the What’s App group, please contact Ida on +47 468 79 903 and ask to be added to the group.
Please join us! We have walkers of all speeds and there is always someone to walk with you. It is a great way to get to know other members. All members, with or without their partners/spouses, are welcome!
Chef Amanda Cushman, Activity Chair
We had a yummy start to one of our newest activities with February’s One-Pot Recipes and March’s Thai dishes. You can see the delicious recipes that you, our members, have submitted at IWC Valencia Recipes | IWC - Valencia (iwc-valencia.com) We know that you have all been cooking more often and have favorites that you cook regularly. Share your recipes with us!
Beginning 1 April, please submit your recipes for April’s theme “Great Chicken Dishes¨ to Chef Amanda at email@example.com. Please submit your recipe (one per person!) in Word format attached to your email. If you have a photo of the finished dish, please attach that too!
What’s App Groups We now have 3 groups that are open to all members!
Join Us for Local Activities – This group is a great way to find out about non-IWCV sponsored activities happening in Valencia. If you see an activity you’d like to go to or just want others to know about, this is the group to be part of. It is only for activities. Contact Phyllis So on 605117632 to be added to this group.
IWC-V Social Chat - To share photos, funny posts or to ask questions about where to go for a new dentist, etc. – all in a private group of your fellow IWCV members – contact Phyllis So on 605117632 and ask her to sign you up.
Women Who Walk - For up-to-date information about the walk (weather changes, which way the group is walking, etc) this is the group to join. Contact Ida Mauritzen on +47 468 79 903 to be added to this group.
We want to provide various talks for our growing membership. Right now, it has been a challenge with the Covid restrictions. With this is mind, our first talk will be virtual on Zoom. It will be on April 13 from 7:00 to 7:30pm. Here are the details:
