Monthly Newsletter
November 2020

Despite the new curfew that prevents us from going out between midnight and 6 AM, there will be more to do during the day this month as the IWCV resumes its cultural tours, plus there’s our First Tuesday Coffee Morning and our monthly luncheon. Read below for more, and to sign up!

  • Congratulations to Pauline Fitzgerald, who has accepted the position of IWCV Charities Coordinator. As Coordinator, Pauline will work with all three of our charity teams to coordinate their efforts on behalf of Casa Caridad, Casa Ronald McDonald, and Proyecto Vivir. Welcome on board, Pauline!

  • We are very pleased to announce that Linda Byrd and Marlyse Lupis have joined Carmen Rieff on our Casa Ronald Valencia (Ronald McDonald House) team. Together these three wonderful ladies will organize our efforts to help Casa Ronald.

  • We announced one new membership project in October, with a new one starting up now:

    • IWCV member Patricia Murray is seeking essays by and about Expatriates who have chosen to live in Valencia. We are pleased to assist Patricia by asking for your stories, which will be translated into Spanish and, potentially, published in a local Valencia newspaper – hopefully in time for the December holidays – and on the IWCV website. Please submit your stories (approximately 4 pages, doublespaced) by November 15, along with your contact details and a few photos if you have them, to

    • We all know how hard the Covid restrictions have hit many local Valencia businesses, and we think we’ve come up with a way to help them generate more business while benefiting our IWCV members at the same time. Here’s what we’re asking our members to do: next time you’re in one of your neighborhood shops or businesses of any kind, please ask if they would be willing to give some kind of benefit to IWCV members. It could be a discount on purchases, maybe a free treatment at a hair salon, a free lesson, or a two-for-one offer – anything that’s not available to the public at large is fine. In exchange, we will post that business’ information on our IWCV website under a newly created “Membership Benefits” page, which will allow that business to reach all current and future IWCV members at no cost. Sounds like a win-win to me! Please send details of benefit offers and businesses to Susan Kaplan at

Congratulations are definitely in order to Roshanna Evans and the PV team for their amazing success in exceeding their goal of raising €500 for Proyecto Vivir in October. This is a great achievement in a very short space of time. And many, many, thanks to all of you who contributed to this very worthy cause. You are all truly appreciated!

  • We had a full house at IWCV’s October luncheon at MuviMent, with 24 members (at Covid-Comfortable tables of 8) enjoying some delicious food on a lovely, sun-filled terrace. You can sign up for November’s lunch below.
