Monthly Newsletter
June 2020

I hope all of you and your families are well.  By now most of us should be excellent cooks and bakers.  We have probably binged on more TV series than we ever thought possible.  Some of us have been enjoying all the opera, ballets and plays we could possibly want to see.  But, oh how we miss just hanging out with our friends and having a coffee or glass of wine.  The good news is that Valencia will be entering Phase 2 On Monday, June 1st.  That should provide many of us with a bit more flexibility.  Unfortunately we will not be resuming most of our customary activities quite yet.  Hopefully by July we can get back to normal or at least the “new normal” and meet “face-to-face.”

Please welcome our new members.

Please wish happy birthday to our June birthdays.

Kudos to the members of the IWC-Valencia.  In a short time we have made a very positive impact.  The clothes drive in March was a great success. These clothes will be sold in their store to raise operating funds.  The shop is

Tienda Solidaria

3 González Martí Street,  46008 Valencia

Last months fundraiser far surpassed our goal of 500 euros.  Fifteen families receive the food they need and there will be money to purchase needed supplies to restock the pantry Proyecto Vivir.  The staff of Proyecto Vivir was very appreciative and looks forward to having an opportunity to show you around the facility when it is again possible.

Special thanks go to Missy Anobile, Ines Reser and Elaine Weckwerth who co-ordinated both of these events.

Just Eat

For those of you who are a bit tired of preparing meals every day, Sandra Molyneaux suggested a great resource for meal delivery.   Food delivery online near you.    They also have an app you can download.

Just enter your address and it shows what restaurants are participating.  You can even search by type of food.

We will be holding out First Tuesday Coffee on June 2nd,  but it will again be virtual.  Here is the information to connect to Zoom.  Hope you will join us.  It is so nice to hear how everyone is doing.

Valencia Resource Guide

We are always updating our Valencia Resource Pages on our website.   If you have information you feel should be added, please let us know.  I encourage you to check it out if you have not done so already.  Special thank you to Sandra Molyneaux for all her hard work putting it together and keeping it up to date.

One change we would like to make is to add an additional page for our members who have business that would be of interest to our members.  If you would like your business listed on that page,  please send me a photo (jpg) of your business card.  I will be sure to add it to the page.

I was delighted to hear from  Paca Pascual today and learn that several  of our members are taking advantage of her offer to do virtual Inglés- Español Intercambios.  A great way to use that stay-at-home time!  If you are interested in doing the same,  contact Paca directly at

Intro to Mahjong for IWC Members

Now that we’re allowed to get together in small groups, we can learn how to play Hong Kong style Mahjong! But, we need at least 4 people to hold a class, so please email Jane at if you are interested. As soon as at least 4 of you sign up, we will schedule the class.

Mahjong is a game that originated in China. The game and its regional variants (there are many!) are widely played throughout Eastern and South Eastern Asia and are becoming more and more popular in Western countries. Similar to Western card games like rummy, mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation – and involves a bit of luck! It is fun, it is social, it is easy – and now is your chance to learn to play!

In this 4 session class, you will learn the basics of Hong Kong Mahjong. You will be able to play a game after the first lesson, and by the last you will be ready to join a mahjong group and play regularly! This class is for beginners, but it’s fine if you’ve played another form of mahjong and want to learn something new –

There is no charge for IWC members, but please plan to attend all 4 sessions (especially the first!).
